Patricia M. Dean Chamberlain, (nee Downing) Our mom, Pat Chamberlain, died peacefully at her home on December 29th. She was born in Atlanta, GA in 1932 and moved to the Midwest where she lived until retiring to North Carolina eight years ago. Her parents, Joseph Raymond and Pauline Elizabeth Downing, predeceased her. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 33 years, Paul Chamberlain; her children, Bobbie (Steve) Peterson, Carol Konz, Dede Tsokatos, Michael (Melissa) Dean and Bill (Lynn) Dean. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Steven (Melissa) Peterson, Jr., Joey, Benjamin, Kelly Konz and Elizabeth (David) Meehan, Drew Tsokatos, Michael and Emily Dean, and Erin and Becca Dean; her great-grandchildren, Camden Peterson, Ricky, Jakob, Elizabeth and Addison Konz. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Lucille Chamberlain; her aunt, Charlotte Fetter; and many cousins and friends too numerous to name. We gathered last year for Mom's 80th birthday and she regaled us with tales of our youth. Some of those stories made us laugh, some made us cry and some embarrassed us. But one thing she said stood out - as we were taking our leave she mentioned, "I loved being a mom." And we knew that was true because she was our biggest supporter. She was forever driving us to band, choir or a myriad of sporting events and was always there to cheer us on. She is still remembered by many Lincoln-Way High School (New Lenox) alumnae as "Mama Dean" for the years she spent there as the school nurse. While we will miss her terribly, we take comfort in the fact that she was the first person we went to for good times, bad times, exciting times and not so exciting times. Her sense of humor continued to be intact and her intellect remained perpetually sharp - we knew we could call and ask a question about anything and she would know the answer. But of all the tributes and attributes she left behind, we will be forever grateful for the greatest gift she gave to us - the gift of family. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
