Bio

John Sheppard Groce, prominent in business and insurance circles, and well known in Dallas, died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock as the result of a stroke of apoplexy... Mr. Groce was born in Talladega County, Ala., Jan. 29 1855, and came to Dallas in 1884, engagin in the insurance business, in which he was interested until his death. Prior to moving to Dallas, Mr. Groce did newspaper work in San Francisco, and he occasionally wrote for various papers and periodicals. The deceased is survived by a widow, a daughter, Miss Margery, and a small son. He has three brothers: Col. T. J. Groce of Galveston, George C. Groce, a lawyer of Waxahachie, and R. L. Groce of Victoria. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the family residence, corner Browder and St. Louis. Interment will be made in Oakland Cemetery. [Source: "Death of John S.
