Eugene Cotey. Burial followed the rites in Oxford Cemetery with Usrey in charge of arrangements. Mr. Roberts, a widely-known Oxford civic leader, died at his home Thursday night at 11:55 o'clock after an illness of three days. Survivors include one son, James R. Roboerts, Oxford; two daughters, Miss Mary G. Roberts, Oxford, and Mrs. Lydia R. Wingfield, Atlanta, Ga: three sisters, Mrs. James A. Orr (Stella), Mrs. Foster Mellon (Lila) and Mrs. Sam A. Mellon (Roberta), all of Oxford. Mr. Roberts retired Oct. 1 after serving as a buyer for Anniston Hardward company for 50 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Oxford and was alifelong resident. He was one of the organizers of the Boy Scout movement in the Oxford Community. Serving as active pallbearers were W. C. Bibb, Harry Embry, Peyton Lacy, Clayton Walker, Tull Allen and W. G. Mellon (William Gaines). Honorary pallbearers were Carl Pace, Dawson Haynes, Frank Smith, Harry Griffin, Carl Wilson, Eugene Wilson, Tom Irish and employes of Anniston Hardware Company.
