Margaret Adelia (Smith) Brass, age 95, of Lexington, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at the Plum Creek Health-care Community. Marge, as she was known, was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Sargent, to Albert and Adelia (Sullivan) Smith. She graduated from Sargent High school in 1935. She attended Kearney State College to obtain a teaching certificate and taught at Round Valley rural school near Sargent. She was married to Loren Brass Sept. 22, 1938, in Sargent. To this marriage were born William Loren Brass, Robert Garold Brass, Trudy Ann Brass and Thomas Anthony Brass. Although she was employed at the Farmers Union Coop as a bookkeeper for a short time, she was at her best as a mother and housewife. She always said that the most important thing to her was that her children loved each other. She lived in Sargent for nearly her entire life and was on the Sargent Library Board for many years. Marge and Loren were snowbirds for 10 years and traveled to Scottsdale, Ariz., where they resided in the winter. She lost her husband, Loren, in 1991. In 2005, when living independently became more difficult, Marge moved to Lexington to a senior home. During her entire life in Sargent, she was an active member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Marge is survived by her three children, William (Jan) Brass of North Little Rock, Ark., Robert (Kay) Brass of Lexington, and Trudy (Mike) Welch of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren, Doug (Kim) Brass, Tim (Stephanie) Brass and Phillip (Misty) Brown of Little Rock Ark., Matt (Stacy) Brass of Lincoln, and Anthony (Lisa) Brass of Kearney; great-grandchildren, Allison Brass, Kelsey Brass, Ethan Brass, Tristan Brass, Ashton Brass, Spencer Brown, Russell Brown, Ava Brown, Lainey Brown, Alexis Johnson, Kenton Brass, Aiden Brass, McCoy Brass; numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
