Richard Cletus Ruffcorn, age 78 was born on July 28, 1935 in Mondamin, Iowa to Lloyd and Edna (Meacham) Ruffcorn and passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Arizona. Richard was raised in Mondamin and graduated from Mondamin High School in 1953. Dick married Elna Grace Meyer on September 16, 1955. They were blessed with two children, Cheryl and Richard. Dick served in the United States Army from January of 1958 until January of 1960 stationed at El Paso, Texas. After the service, he returned to the Omaha area and worked at Vickers for 15 years. Dick then moved back to the Mondamin are to farm and raise hogs until he retired at age 62. Dick always had a passion to live in the warm south after his service in the United States Army. In 2005, Dick and Elna followed their dream to Mesa, Arizona. Dick accepted Christ as his personal Savior at age 19 and at that time turned his life and its direction over to the Lord. Dick served faithfully in many different positions in the churches he attended over the years. Dick's passion for baseball saw him and his teammates participating in the Iowa High School State Baseball Tournament and since had been an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks. Dick spent many hours woodworking and scroll sawing. Dick enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. Dick had a great love for his family and many dear friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Cyril and his wife, Josephine, sister-in-laws, Janice Meyer and Marietta Bassett and nephew, Dan McClannahan. Survivors include his loving wife, Elna of 58 years, children, Cheri (K.C.) Kersten of Logan, Iowa and Rick (Diane) Ruffcorn of Modale, Iowa, grandchildren, Klint, Kody and Kolton Kersten, Zach, Jacob and Amanda Ruffcorn, sister Joyce, (Gene) McClannahan, sister-in-law, Miriam (Rich) Goad, brother-in-law, John A. Meyer and loving nieces and nephews and many great friends. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Mesa, Arizona. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of refreshments and fellowship after the service. Burial set for a later date at the Calhoun Cemetery near Magnolia, Iowa.
