Wife of Howard Joseph Gillies. Obituary from the Salt Lake City Tribune, dated 30 November 2007: Bernice Marie Gillies, 89, of Superior, passed away on Friday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Mineral County Community Hospital. She was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Sunnyside, Utah, the youngest daughter of nine children, to Andrew and Susan Van Wagnor. She was raised and educated in Utah and sat on her dad's knee and ate her meals until he was killed in a mining accident. Bernice was 9 years old. On March 3, 1936, she married Howard J. Gillies in Lindon, Utah, and the couple solemnized their vows in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1973. The couple lived in Garfield, Utah, and then to Kearns, Utah, where Howard passed away on Sept. 14, 1985. Bernice moved to Superior in 1999 to be near her family. She loved crocheting, gardening and fishing. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Bernice was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah and in Superior. She is now survived by two children, Alan (Jackquelyn) Gillies of Superior and Marlene Laraie (James J.) Wiley of Kearns. Other family members who survive her or have passed away include grandchildren, Kenneth (deceased), Gloria Simpkins of Kearns, Anndenia Gillies of Superior, Jim Wiley (deceased) Thomas Gillies of Superior, Andrew Gillies (deceased), Alan Jr. Gillies of Layton, Utah, and Susan Nelson of Superior; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral graveside services will be in Lake Point, Utah, at the Lake Point Cemetery.
