Herman H. Gillen, 85, of Emhouse, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013, at his residence. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 1, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Johnson and Rev. Alison Humann officiating. Burial will be in Pattison Cemeter Herman Hampton was born in Cryer Creek, Texas, to the late John Anderson and Lois Gertrude Massengale Gillen. He was a member of the Emhouse Methodist Church and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, loving his horses over many years, and he enjoyed showing his horses and roping. He also raised greyhounds. Herman worked for Crown Petroleum for 28 years in Corsicana. He was a natural baseball player and still played slow pitch later in life. He also loved to weld for the community. He farmed for many years in the Emhouse area. Herman married Reta Patrica Eidson of Corsicana on October 26, 1957. They lived in Emhouse and were married for 56 years. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Randy Hampton Gillen; and brother, Loyd Gillen, of Cryer Creek. Survivors include his wife, Reta; son, Danny Gillen and wife, Terri, of Mildred; daughters, Paula Trojeck and husband, Eric, of Ennis, and Rhetta Wasinger, of Corsicana; grandchildren: Jeremy Crawford, Amie O'Dell, Cody Trojeck, Katie McMullen, Amanda Dodds, Misty Gillen, Jake and Dalton Wasinger; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Jaynie Johnston and husband, David, and Sue Drain, all of Emhouse; many other relatives and numerous friends.
