Bio

Hubert L. Linenberger, a longtime Bastrop County rancher, businessman, and community leader, passed away on June 4, 2003. He was the son of Louis and Sina Linenberger. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 25, 1926. He attended high school in Hays, Kansas, spent two years at San Angelo College, and received his B.B.A from the University of Texas in 1951. He served his country by entering the U.S. Navy on June 2, 1944 at the age of 18. He received five battle stars while serving on the destroyer USS Miller. He also saw duty on the USS Broadwater and for a few months on a yard oiler at Point Loma, near San Diego, California before being discharged on June 12, 1946. He helped his father establish the Texas Rendering Company in Bastrop County in 1948. He served as Secretary - Treasurer and General Manager for Texas Rendering until 1984, and was a member of the Texas Renderers Association. He purchased Bastrop Florist in April, 2000. He was a member of the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, the V.F.W, and the American Legion. He was also a 50-year member of the Lions Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Horseless Carriage Club of America, and a member of numerous Model T and Model A Car Clubs. He was married in Austin, Texas to Anita Kay Browning of Bastrop, Texas on August 31, 1963. They had one daughter, Aya Raina. He had a son, Lamar Louis Linenberger, from a previous marriage who was born on December 10, 1957 and passed away on December 8, 1961. He served on the Bastrop ISD School Board from 1968 to 1984 when he left as Board President. He was a First National Bank Board Member from 1963 until his death. His loves included antique cars, old tools, guns and an occasional game of dominoes with his friends. He attended Ascension Catholic Church and attended services regularly. Those who had any business dealings with Hubert knew he was an honest man and his word was gold. He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Anita Kay Linenberger; his daughter, Aya L. Matocha, son-in- law, David James Matocha; and two grandchildren, Dara Kay Rabensburg and Dustin James Matocha; his mother-in-law, Katie Browning and many friends and business associates. The family will receive guests at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home from 6:30 p.m., Friday evening followed by the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Edward Dokupil 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Ascension Catholic Church, Bastrop. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop.
