Garold R. Runge, 75 Kearney Resident Garold R. "Gary" Runge, 75, of Kearney died Sunday, December 15, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. The Rev. Matt Snell will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at the Kearney Cemetery conducted by the Navy Honors Team, American Legion Post 52 and the VFW Post 759 of Kearney. He was born July 14, 1938 in Sherman County, Nebraska to Roy and Grace (Anderson) Runge. He grew up in the Litchfield and Amherst area. He attended school and graduated from Riverdale High School. He served in the Navy from 1956-59. Gary was married to Donna Shafto on September 22, 1963 in Amherst. They made their home in Axtell and Kearney. He worked in maintenance department at the West Company in Kearney for many years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club in Kearney. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycle riding and the times spent with the McDonald's coffee club. Survivors include his wife of Kearney, son, Craig and Shannon Runge of Waco, NE their children, Michael, Michelle and Mikaela, son, Brett and Andrea Runge of Axtell and their children, Jade and Curt Olson, Bryce, Brandt and Brennan, unson, Darby and Traci Runge of Kearney and their children, Taylor, Liam, Payton, Caden, Jackson and Darby, Jr., NE, sister, Diane Bunger of Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lonnie, sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Erv Bailey and sister-in-law, Pam Baird.
