Winterset Madisonian October 2, 1996 Virginia Leslie, Winterset Virginia Mae Leslie, 70, of Winterset, died of a stroke on Sept. 25, 1996, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Sept. 27, 1996 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. The Rev. Jon Gaul officiated the services. She was born on July 28, 1926 to Perry and Ferne (Dudney) Coooper and on May 26, 1946 she married Donald Silliman. After his death, she married Dean Leslie on July 1, 1965 in Winterset. She was a homemaker and waitress for many years and also worked for the Food Service Program at the Winterset Schools. She was a lifetime resident of Madison County, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands. Surviving relatives include four daughters, Sandra Holliday and husband Gary of Van Meter, Debra Holliday and husband Randy of Westminster, Colo., Janice Weeks of Winterset and Paula Griffith and husband Roger at Ft. Dodge; one sister, Ruby Hendrickson of Winterset; two brothers, H. M. Cooper of Winterset, and Edward Cooper of Polk City; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be directed to the family.
