Nora Leona Wagoner was born to James and Sarah Wagoner on March 14, 1884 in Hoopeston, Illinois. She grew up on a farm in Illinois with six brothers and sisters. When she was 15 years old she married a man named Charles Thomas, the story is that their families made them get married because Nora became pregnant. Charles took his pregnant wife on a drive into town and pulled in front of a general store. He went inside the front of the store and walked out the back door and left his pregnant wife inside of the car and walked away from his growing family. Nora never saw or heard from him again. Nora gave birth to twin daughters on March 30, 1900 when she was 16. Only one daughter would survive and sadly the other one would not, she was not named instead the headstone reads Baby Thomas. This was a time when women needed a man for everything, women had no rights at this time, so you could imagine the fear she must have had. Thankfully she met a wonderful man who would love and take care of her until her death. She later met and married George Strubel in 1902 who took in her daughter Agnes from her previous marriage like he was her own. She had another daughter Florence in 1903 and a son Cecil in 1907. She had her last child Evan in 1911 at the age of 27. Sadly, Nora died at the age of 27 just six months after the birth of her son Cecil, I have not been able to find a death certificate and no one in our family has been able to tell me how she died.
