ORD — Alice Mae Hruby, 85, of Ord died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Valley View Living Center in Ord. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ord Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Trever Rook officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Mrs. Hruby was born April 26, 1928, to Harvey and Lena (Moore) Woody at Arcadia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hruby. Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert D. Hruby of Gordon and Jeff and Vicky Hruby of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Lyle Hunkins of St. Paul and Julie and Steve Dorsey of Arcadia; seven grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Chamberlain of Arlington; and a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Betty Woody of Lincoln. She was raised in Arcadia, where she received her education and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1946. Following high school, Alice taught in rural country schools near Arcadia. On June 5, 1947, Alice was united in marriage to Robert Hruby at Loup City. The couple made their first home at the Hruby family farm. They moved to a farm in the Pleasant Valley area of Valley County where they resided for 11 years before returning to the Hruby farm where they lived for 30 years. In 1991, they retired from the farm and moved into Ord. Alice worked in the laundry department at Valley County Hospital. Mr. Hruby passed away on Nov. 9, 2001. Alice continued to make her home in Ord and resided at Grandview Assisted Living and Valley View Living Center. In past years, she was very active in the Comstock United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a softball coach in Comstock and a member of the Ord Artissimos. Alice enjoyed knitting, crocheting, ceramics and gardening. She was a painter and had most recently painted many pictures for her family. Alice and Robert spent many hours traveling to their son Bob's football games at Peru State College. Alice was a devoted farm wife and homemaker who deeply loved and enjoyed her family. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, A.K. and Dean Woody; and a daughter-in-law, Maxine Hruby. Posted in Obituaries on Thursday, November 14, 2013 Grand Island Independent
