Bio

Zella L. Werth passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 7, 2013, at her home in Butte, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 10, 1934, in Fairview, Utah, to Joseph C. and Vida M. (Turpin) Rigby. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1954 and moved to Salt Lake City for a while to look for work. With no success she decided to move to the blue skies of Butte, Montana, where she met Walter G. Werth. They were married in 1955 and soon after they started their family with two daughters and a son. She was blessed to be able to be a stay at home mother until the unfortunate death of Walter in 1972. A few years later she met her life-time companion, Rolland Farmen. They spent wonderful times together traveling and fishing until his passing from a long illness in 2004. Besides Walter and Rolland, Zella is also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, five sisters, her son, Walter Dean Werth in 2001, and her grandson, Josh Witt in 2005. Zella love to bake, crochet, do needle work and gardening. She was always up for a drive in the countryside to pick wild raspberries and chokecherries to make jam. When she went to work she worked a couple of odd jobs before taking a job with the public school system, a position she held for 29 years. She retired to care for her ailing son, Dean Werth. Zella is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Mary Jensen-Sawtell and Jim Sawtell and Ruth Witt; grandchildren, Jennifer Jensen, Denisha Townsend, James and Nikki Sawtell, Andrew Sawtell and Mike Townsend; and great-grandchildren, Steven Jensen, Madisen Sanders, Jace Sawtell, Tucker Sawtell, Ella Sawtell and Brylynn Sawtell, all of Butte. Zella looked forward to her afternoon "nap" date with Madisen and was always ready to hear a story from Steven, and would have to ask, "Did this really happen?" Nana, Steven and Madisen enjoyed puzzles, cards, walks and story time. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Lindgren officiating. Entombment will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials in memory of Zella may be made to the Diabetes Association, the Celiac Foundation or the Chiari 1Malformation Foundation.
