RACHEL A. SHOCKEY, 91, of Winfield, passed away Wednesday morning, November 6, 2013 at Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Oxford, Kansas. Born October 31, 1922 in Offerle, Kansas, she was the daughter of George and Edna (Brecheisen) Bolay. She attended grade school in Sterling, Kansas and high school in Wellington, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Winfred S. Shockey on May 30, 1943 in Wellington. The couple made their home in Winfield. In the 1960's, they owned and operated Shockey Home Improvements. She worked as a nurse's aide at Winfield Rest Haven for 25 years retiring at the age of 75. Winfred preceded her in death on May 29, 2006. Rachel was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Arkansas City. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her family. Her family includes: Her son: Willard Shockey and wife, Penny of Seattle, Washington; Her daughters: Carmen Stanislao and husband, George of Belgrade, Montana; Annette Long and husband, Bud of Winfield; Donna Heeney of Boone, North Carolina; and Karen Schenck and husband, Jan of St. Louis, Missouri; and Her 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Rachel was preceded in death by her brother, Clinton Bolay. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening. A Memorial has been established in Rachel's name for the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
