Bio

From the Cottonwood County Citizen July 22, 1981: "Funeral services for Owen Finstad, 65, were held Saturday, July 18, from the American Lutheran Church, Windom, with the Rev. Joseph Nystuen officiating. Internment was in the Resthaven Memory Gardens, Windom. Mr. Finstad passed away Thursday, July 16, in the Windom hospital. Since March he had been receiving medical treatment for cancer and had been hospitalized several times, most recently for seven days in the Windom Hospital. He was the son of Henry and Annie Olson Finstad, born Oct. 28, 1915, near Clifton, Tex. He attended elementary school in Norse and is a graduate of Clifton High School, class of 1934. Owen moved to Cranfills Gap, Tex., in 1931 and on Feb. 3, 1941, was married to Lorraine Anderson at Estherville, Ia. They they moved to Heron Lake in 1942 and to Bingham Lake in 1944. A year later they moved to the farm near Bergen where the family farmed for 15 years before going to Windom in 1981. Mr. Finstad was employed at Gjertson Fleet Supply in 1967 began working for the United States Post Office in Windom. He held the position of postal clerk until his retirement this past April. He had served as Sunday school superintendent at his church, Bethany Lutheran, Bergen, and was the manager of the Bergen softball team. He had also served on the Board of Directors of the Bergen Co-Op. Those who survive include his wife, Lorraine, Windom; five children and their spouses; ... two brothers, Houston of Clifton, Tex., and Ray of Dumas, Tex., and three sisters, Mrs. Roscoe Patterson (Castell), Valley Mills, Tex.; Mrs. Frank Wood (Lola), Clifton Tex., and Beatrice Finstad, Burleson, Tex. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers."
