He was born Feb. 2, 1902 to Martha Jane and Newton Francis Jenkins. Early in his life, the family moved to Lincoln, Ne., where he spent his childhood and teen years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers & sisters-in-law, Ross & Gladys Jenkins and Howard & Jess Jenkins. In 1933, he came to Oklahoma City where he met Nova Lucille Hall. They were married on Aug. 1, 1935. He was a retired postal worker and OKC Water Dept. empolyee. After retirement, he and his wife spent several years preparing financial information statements of Okla. municipalities for numerous bond dealers and banks in the OKC and Tulsa areas. During WWII, Gurden was a Captain in the headquarters of the 13th US Army Air Force, serving in the Courier Service. His tour of duty was from Aug. 28, 1942 to July 31, 1946. He was a member of St. Lukes United Methodist church for many years, serving as president of the Couples Sunday School Class several times. He was a member of the Village United Methodist Church and Wesley Sunday School Class where he served as president. Gurden loved meeting people, garding, golf, and working out at the Northside YMCA when he was able. He is survived by his wife and daughter. Survivors other than his daughter and wife include a nephew, two granddaughters and three great grandchildren.
