OBITUARY Mrs Theresa Hermes, widow of the late Joseph Hermes, Sr, passed away at her home, 1721 North Wisconsin street, Friday, Feb 13, at 5:30 pm. She was 79 years of age. In the death of Mrs Hermes, Racine will feel the loss of one of its most highly respected and oldest residents. She lived in Racine and vicinity nearly all her long and well spent life and saw the city grow from a village to its resent proportions. A true Christian woman, she was ever kind and charitable, always glad and willing to help those in distress and trouble. Being of a cheeful and happy disposition, she endeared herself to old and young alike and many will mourn her going. She was a widow for 17 years, the devoted mother of ten children, seven of whom survive her. She was the center of much home life and cheer. The children are: Mrs Louise Sullivan, Mrs Peter Ruetz, Mrs Patrick Williams, Fred, Edward, Albert and Miss Mattie Hermes. Thirty four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren are living in Racine and vicinity. One brother, Joseph Welfl, of this city, and one sister, Mrs Fanny Brazda, of Dodge, Neb also survive her. The funeral will be at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning at St John's Catholic church on Green street. The Journal Times Racine, Wisconsin • Sat, Feb 14, 1920, Page 9
