Rev. Troy Burton Corzine born Dec. 4, 1920 in Parker, Collin County, was called home on Nov. 19, 2009. His father, James Riley Corzine born in Wylie, and mother, Annie Warren Edens Corzine born in Judsonia, Ark., and 11 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Velma Rhea Lockey Corzine formally of Princeton. They were married on May 18, 1942 in McKinney; had four sons, Michael and wife Jilhan, Gary and wife Lynn, Mark and wife Kim, and Jeffery Corzine, and one daughter Pamela and husband Chris Jones. Troy and Velma have ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. As a teenager Troy went to California to pick grapes and returned home to join the Army. His six years in the Army included the North African landing, at Safi French Morocco, the El Guettar action in Tunisia, the Sedjenane Bizerte campaign and the Sicilian campaign. He was wounded in North Africa and again in Sicily. When medically retired as a First Lieutenant he helped sell war bonds. Troy and Velma were the first citizens of Collin County to purchase land and build a house and farm buildings in 1945 with a loan from Farm Security Administration. This was 114 acres in the Forest Grove community Southwest of McKinney on what is now East Blondy Jhune Road. In 1951, Troy surrendered to the gospel ministry and sold the farm moving his family to Decatur where he graduated from Decatur Baptist College. He later was graduated from East Texas State University at Commerce, Texas and Southwestern Theological Seminary, Fort Worth. He pastored Altoga Baptist Church, Altoga, Texas; First Baptist Church, Eldorado, Okla.; FBC, Princeton; FBC, Marietta, Oklahoma; Calvary Baptist, Lawton, Okahoma; FBC, Rapid City, S.D.; and Verona Baptist, Verona. In the 1960s Rev. Corzine had a weekly radio program in Rapid City called the "Herald of the Hills." And he served as Collin County Veterans Service Officer in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Troy loved studying the Bible and sharing what he had learned. He genuinely cared about people and was always ready to help. He enjoyed the country life, gardening, humming birds, dogs, cattle and the pecan trees. He loved his family, his neighbors and his country and showed it. Troy loved God, was awed and humbled by His creation, mercy and grace. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Farmersville. Dr. James W. Evans will officiate, and burial will be in Verona Cemetery in Verona. Arrangements are under the direction of Hurst's Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville..
