Herald Coaster, July 30, 1974: Funeral services for Arnold Franklin Zemanek, Sr., 66, of Houston, will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday from the Garmany and Co. Funeral Home Chapel in Rosenberg, with the Rev. W. Frank Cate, pastor of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Zemanek died Saturday at Methodist Hospital in Houston. He was a production engineer for Texas Gulf Sulphur Co. As supervisor of sulphur production, he was responsible for recovery of sulphur from underground deposits from the company's Gulf Coast mines. He directed numerous exploration drilling programs in the United States and foreign countries and was instrumental in developing four U.S. patents relating to sulphur operations. Zemanek started work with TGS as a laborer at the Long Point in January 1931 and retired in 1972 as assistant general manager. A Fort Bend County native, he was graduated from Rosenberg High in 1927 and was an engineering major at the University of Texas. He was a member of the American Petroleum Institute and the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Valasta June Zemanek of Houston; two sons, Robert A. Zemanek of Houston and Arnold F. Zemanek of San Marcos; one daughter, Mrs. Wanelle M. Adair of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; four sisters, Mrs. Vlasta Chernosky, Mrs. Alvina Gajewsky, and Mrs. Olga Seale, all of Houston, and Mrs. Gusta Lee Lenert of Rosenberg; four brothers, Louis Zemanek of Long Point, and William, Alvin, and John Zemanek, all of Houston; one grandddaughter; two grandsons; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorials in his name may be made to the SPJST Nursing Home in Needville. Funeral services will be under the direction of Garmany and Co. Funeral Home.
