Irene A. Blazey, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Nebraska. Irene was born on Oct. 16, 1924, near Sargent, Nebraska the daughter of Joseph "Joe" and Anna B. (Klanecky) Vavra. Irene was united in marriage to John Blazey on Feb. 10, 1947, at Ord. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1974. Irene is survived by: daughter, Mary Ann White of Loup City, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jake Skorniak, Jr. of Denver, Colorado and Julie Morse of Seattle, Washington and a host of family and friends. Irene attended rural school in the Sargent and Burwell, Nebraska areas and later moved with her family to Ord, Nebraska where she worked at the Ord Bakery. After her marriage to John, the couple first lived in Loup City, Nebraska and then moved to Ord , Nebraska for one year before returning to Loup City, Nebraska where John worked as a mechanic. Irene worked for many years at the J&L Cafe, Loup City, Nebraska. She also worked at Delicious Foods, Grand Island, Nebraska and did custodial work at Westside Park, Loup City, Nebraska before her retirement. She continued to live in her home until moving to Rose Lane Home, Loup City, Nebraska. After moving to Rose Lane she loved playing Bingo and sewing. Irene loved spending time outdoors in her yard, tending to her flowers and large vegetable garden. She always wished it could be Summer year round! She also enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and polka music was her favorite type of music. She also loved her faithful companion, a cat named Zoe. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: parents and brothers, Eldon and Henry Vavra. Graveside services were at the Evergreen Cemetery, Loup City, Nebraska.
