Anton Novak had Long Business Career in Wilber Anton Novak, 66, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nelson Searcy, on March 5 after an illness of several months. He was born in Chicago and spent his childhood in southeastern Nebraska. He lived in Omaha for 25 years and came to Wilber in 1909 where he was in business with his brother-in-law, Henry Pospisil, for a year. In 1910 he opened the Exclusive Shoe Store. In the early twenties, he built the B.V.D. Filling Station, how known as the Farmer's Oil Station and following that went into partnership with another brother-in-law, William Pospisil, a general merchandise store. In 1925 he operated a basket factory and at the time of his death he was managing the Wilber Country Club and and was in partnership with his son-in-law, Nelson Searcy, manufacturing calf weaners. He was city clerk of Wilber in 1931 and served as police judge and city assessor of Wilber for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Omaha. Funeral services were held from the Havel and Houser funeral chapel on Saturday afternoon with Rev. K.O. Zavadil officiating. The ladies trio sang. Interment was in the Bohemian National cemetery.
