From The Grand Island Independent, Monday, August 24, 1992, page 9-A, transcribed by Linda Berney: Alice Horacek, 67, of Fullerton, died August 21, 1992, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton with the Rev. Walter Nabity officiating. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Horacek was born January 11, 1925, at Palmer, to Anton and Anna (Nabity)Pelikan. She attended country school in the Palmer area and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1942. She served as bookkeeper for several years at the Farmer's Co-op Creamery in Fullerton. On May 14, 1947, she married Richard Gabriel. They farmed in the Fullerton area. He died December 9, 1975. On August 12, 1977, she married Donald Horacek. They continued to live in Fullerton until her death. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and parish council, St. Ann's Altar Society, Legion Auxiliary, South Side Extension Club, Flower Belle, the 8 and 40, Heritage Club and a past 4-H club leader. She was a supervisor of open class at the Nance County Fair for many years, and she served on the election board. Survivors include her husband, Don; two sons, Leonard Gabriel of Garmish, Germany, and Dennis Gabriel of Fullerton; two daughters, Vickie Christensen of Morrison, CO., and Mariann Malzacher of Kearney; one stepson, Ralph Horacek of Belgrade; two stepdaughters, Jeri Rieken and Janis Greff, both of Columbus; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents and one sister.
