Lydia Elisa Kunz was born on January 10, 1897 on a farm near Hallam. She was one of seven children born to Dietrich and Mary Bargman. She was baptized and confirmed at the Olive Branch Church and attended Hallam Congregational UCC, Hallam, Nebraska when it was built. Lydia was a homemaker all of her life. On January 22, 1919 she married Aloyis Kunz. They had two children, Elmer and Darlene. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Henry and George, a sister, Minnie Lamb, her son-in-law, Ralph Prieb, and granddaughter, Rita Prieb. She is survived by her children, Elmer of Denton and Darlene Prieb of Lincoln; sisters, Carolyn Ulrich, Clara Dare, Elsie Beetem, all of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Luana Pestche, Jan Morse, Marilyn Giles, Susan and Laurie Prieb; and seven great-grandchildren, Valerie and John Pestche, Alan Morse, Doug and LeAnn Giles, Tim and Jason Bales. Lydia lived in the Hallam area most of her life. In November of 1979 she moved to Homestead Nursing Home where on Thursday, April 26 she died at the age of 87. Funeral services were held April 30 at Hallam Congregational UCC with Rev. Kathy Lunau officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Darrell Ulrich, Ron Rahorst, Melvin Rahorst, Emerson Eckel, Leon Deunk, and E. Ace Dinges. Source: The Crete News, May 2, 1984
