WESLACO, TX. - Irene Henry, 86, passed away September 9, 2013 in Weslaco, TX after a lengthy illness. She was born September 15, 1926 in Edinburg to Frank and Mary Krska, one of seven children. Irene graduated from Edinburg High School and attended Edinburg Junior College. Irene married Herman Henry on June 25, 1946 after he returned from service in World War II. They made their home north of Weslaco where they farmed and raised five children. Irene and Herman were married for 66 years until his death on December 21, 2012. She was a stay at home mom until she entered the workforce in her 40's, working for a Weslaco legal firm before joining the staff of Mid-Valley State Bank. She retired in 1989. Through the years, Irene was active in Weslaco's Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and St. Pius X Catholic Church and its missions. Irene loved to be outside where she gardened, picked fruit and played with her dogs. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her daughters, Mary Esther Hausenfluck and husband, Kenny of McAllen, Elizabeth Sanchez of Edinburg, and Rose Beackey of Austin; 2 sons, Stephen Henry and wife, Pat of Levelland and Art Henry and wife, Monica of Victoria; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and her sister, Georgia Mae Townsend of Mission. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Henry; her brothers, Frances, Leonard and Ernest Krska; and sisters, Marie and Lucille. Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 6pm to 8pm, with a rosary at 7pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 2pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco, with Father Zuniga officiating. Interment will follow to Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. The family suggests memorials be made to the Knapp Medical Hospice Foundation, 1401 E. 8th St., Weslaco, TX 78596 or St. Pius X Catholic Church Building Fund, 600 S. Oklahoma, Weslaco, TX 78596.
