Succumbs to Pneumonia It is with deep regret that we are called upon to chronicle this week the death of Mr. Ward Bell, a former Milan young man who was reported last week as very ill with pneumonia at the Roosevelt Hospital, New York City. A telegram at that time sent to his step-father, Mr. David Jacobs stated that he had just had an operation and was resting easier. However the efforts of the physicians did not avail and he died on Friday evening. He had been a resident of the state of Washington for the past four years and enlisted in the United States army last June and had been in training since that time. Enroute to New York with the troops a short time ago he was taken ill with the ultimate result as stated above. The remains arrived in Milan last Saturday and were taken to the home of Mr. Jacobs. The funeral was held at the M. E. church Tuedsay afternoon. Rev. WE. SO. Smith officiating. The church was crowed with the citizens to pay tribute to the young man who had volunteered his services to his country yielding up his life as truly as though he had fallen on the battlefield. The remains were laid to rest in Marble Park cemetery. Deceased was born July 12 1891 and enlisted in the army in June being assigned to Co. K. 161st Infantry. E, plot 10, grave 6, but there is no marker for him. They also indicated that he was buried in 1917. They also offered to sell a small marker to mark his grave at a reasonable price.
