Bio

Son of William and Sarah Gray Andis. He married Thursa Cornett and had five girls; Mary Jane, Sarah, Virginia, Ellen, and L.C.  He enlisted as a Corporal on 24 April 1861 in Company F, 4th Infantry Regiment Virginia (Confederate Unit). He was captured and was a POW on 23 March 1862 at Kernstown, VA and was exchanged on 05 August 1862. He was promoted to Full Lieutenant 2nd Class on 08 November 1862 and Full Lieutenant 1st Class on 18 December 1863. He was again captured and became a POW on 06 February 1864 at Morton's Ford, VA and was confined on 09 February 1864 at Hilton Head, SC until his parole on 15 December 1864. He returned to Grayson County, Virginia.
