Centenarian, Sophie C. Steager, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Butler County Health Care Center, David City, Nebraska. Sophie, the daughter of John V. and Josephine (Dolezal) Polacek was born on February 21, 1912 at Brainard, Nebraska. Sophie attended rural country school District 77 and Holy Trinity School, Brainard, Nebraska. On January 15, 1935, she was united in marriage to Ernest Steager at Holy Trinity Church, Brainard, Nebraska. One child was born to this union. They lived on a farm near David City, Nebraska for a few years and then moved to a farm near Surprise, Nebraska. They lived in the Surprise, Nebraska vicinity for many years and it was the area in which they eventually retired. Sophie was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Shelby, Nebraska. In 1990, she moved to David City, Nebraska. She was a current member of St. Mary's Church and PCCW. Sophie is survived by: son, Dennis (Donna Lou) Steager of Rising City, Nebraska; grandsons: Donnie (Stacy) Steager and Dannie (Sheri) Steager both of Surprise, Nebraska; great-grandchildren: Makenna, Ty and Taylor Steager and a host of family and friends. Sophie is preceded in death by: parents; husband, Ernest Steager in 1991; 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, David City, Nebraska.
