OBITUARY- Mary E. Vomacka, 83, of Austin, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at the Adams Healthcare Center. She was born May 7, 1919, in Coggon, Iowa, to George and Mary Anne (Dennis) Henderson. She graduated from Central City High School in 1939. She also attended nursing school in Central City, Iowa. In 1941, she married Frank Vomacka. Mary was a farmer's wife in the Austin area. The couple also owned a farm in McIntyre, Iowa. Mary was a nurse at the Riceville Hospital in Riceville, Iowa. In 1963, the couple moved to Austin, where Mary did private nursing. She worked as an LPN from 1964 to 1981 at Comforcare in Austin. She gave blood for many years and received a 15-year pin. She was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church where she was active in her unit and taught catechism. She enjoyed family, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, knitting, crocheting, flowers, her pets and her handheld Yahtzee game. Survivors include her son, Alfred (Candis) Vomacka, Austin; daughters, Kathleen Schuna, Austin; Betty Towers, Austin; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; parents; sister, Jessie Draayer; son-in-law, Ted Towers. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 18, 2003, with a 5 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Kurt Farrell officiating. Interment: Calvary Cemetery. Funeral Home: Mayer Funeral Home, Austin.
