Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Stonacek Memorial Chapel at Pierce. He died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Plainview hospital. ——— He was born Jan. 16, 1948, at Lynch to Fred and Gladys (Hafsaas) Scheinost. He attended school at Spencer and Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1967. He married Garcia Koppelmann Sept. 4, 1971, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Plainview. After getting married Larry and his wife Garcia laid roots just outside of Plainview, where they farmed for many years. After farming Larry did satellite dish installation all around the Midwest when they were first introduced. Shortly after completion of that work, he began working at Battle Creek Co-op out of Plainview where he remained employed until late in 2012. His employment there lasted more than 10 years. Larry was an avid hunter and truly enjoyed the outdoors. Early to rise in the morning, he was often in town at the local Casey's General Store, giving the clerks trouble and getting his morning cookie. He always had a kind word for all, mixed in with the usual clever and sarcastic comment. Larry was also very active with his kids. He coached the Plainview softball team for many years, coaching both his daughters. Later in life he coached both his sons' baseball teams as well. He enjoyed many things in life, including watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers (usually after half-time), Duke basketball and the Yankees baseball games. He liked going for drives with his wife Garcia in the country, looking at the crops and all the farmsteads, knowing for hundreds of miles who farmed. Above all else, Larry always made sure to spend quality time with his wife, kids and grandkids. Survivors include his wife, Garcia Scheinost of Plainview; children Michelle and husband Toby Henson of Crofton, Bonnie Williamson of Plainview, Michael and wife Dessa Scheinost of Denver, Colo., Shane and wife Rosalynn Scheinost of Axtell; six grandchildren; one brother, Donald "Butch" and wife Mary Scheinost of Niobrara. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Gladys. Recorded hymns will be "Old Rugged Cross," "Daddy's Hands," "My Chains Are Gone,'' Amazing Grace." Casket bearers are Terry Doerr, John Dunbar, Brent Abler, Randy Anderson, Kurtis Cash, Nate Stec.
