GASTON ETIE HEFFINGTON, 83 of Schulenburg, Texas passed away Monday, August 29, 2005 of natural causes after suffering from Alzheimer's disease for the past few years. He was a 50+ year Texas Banker having served 7 1/2 years as a National Bank Examiner; 10 years as a senior officer at First City Bancorporation where during the 1970's, he was on the Board of 20+ banks; a consultant with National Bancshares in San Antonio, Texas; and 34 years as Chairman of the Board of Fayetteville Bank in Fayetteville, TX until his retirement in September 2003. Gaston was born in Smithwick, Texas on June 5, 1922, and graduated from Marble Falls High School. He later joined the US Army Air Corps serving as a navigator in World War II in North Africa, Sicily, and Central Europe and participated in the troop drop during the D-Day Invasion. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 siblings; first wife Margaret Ann and son Rodger T. Heffington. He is survived by his second wife Ruby; his sister Ruth Allen of Kerrville, Texas: his daughters Marianne Heffington of Katy, Texas; Paula Kay Baker and husband James, Sr of Fayetteville, Texas; Grandchildren Brian Heffington of Katy, Texas; James Baker, Jr. and wife Holly of Houston, Texas; Stacie Baker Whitley and husband Mark of Dallas, Texas; and Great Grandchild Lea Nicole Whitley of Dallas, Texas. The family will receive friends on Wednesday August 31, 2005 from 5:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M at Henneke Funeral Home, 1515 Montezuma in Columbus, Texas. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday September 1, 2005, at La Grange Church of Christ, 646 East Hwy 71, La Grange, Texas at 12:30 P.M. Burial will be at 3:30 P.M at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Alzheimer's Association of Houston, Southeast Chapter, 2909 West Holcombe, Houston, Texas 77025; or La Grange Church of Christ, Box 523, La Grange, TX 78945; Smith-McMillan DAR Chapter, c/o Shirley Pyburn, 3031 Piney Creek Road, La Grange, Tx 78945 or the charity of your choice.
