From Burwell, Nebraska. 52nd Bomb Sqdn-Air Corps MacDill field Tampa Florida. Disappeared over the Gulf of Mexico in a B-17E Flying Fortress on a navigation training flight from MacDill Field, Tampa FL. Despite an extensive search no trace of the aircraft or crew was ever found. Crew lost at sea: 2LT Hugh W Millis , Pilot 2LT Charles E Thomas , Co-pilot SSGT Wilbert M George PVT Elmer E Mathauser PVT Nelton L Teal PVT Robert R Pigman PVT Raymond S Lynch PVT Charles R Phillips Passengers: PVT Gordon J Howard PVT Eugene L Kasmer
