COLUMBUS -- July 24, 1915 – August 22, 2013. Kenneth D. Kingston passed peacefully in the early morning of August 22, 2013, in Omaha. Ken, a longtime resident of Columbus, will be eternally remembered for his kind, encouraging words and love for family. He had great pride in each of his five grandchildren. He also shared a strong passion for baseball and the Huskers. Born in Pender to Ernest and Faye Kingston, Ken served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Wounded, he was decorated with the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for military heroism and achievement. In 1947, he married his wife, Jean, and began a 25-year career with Becton-Dickinson, in Columbus, where sons, Tim and Mick were born. In 1963, "The Kingstons" moved to Broken Bow, when Ken was offered a new career opportunity with B-D. He was an active member of the Broken Bow community, serving on the City Council and Custer County Board of Supervisors. Ken's retirement years were primarily spent in Columbus and Omaha. Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents; brothers, Darrell and Richard; and sister, Wilma McCauliff. He is survived by son, Tim Kingston, and wife, Marilyn, of Omaha, and their children, Ben, Betsy and Adam; and son, Mick, of Denver, and his children, Michael and Lauren. A family service has been arranged. Arrangements by Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler, Omaha. August 28, 2013 Columbus Telegram
