Bio

Hilda Went, 93, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Morys Haven Nursing Home in Columbus. The funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday at 9:45 AM at the church. Memorials may be directed to those of the family choice. Hilda Went was born August 11, 1920, in Platte County, Nebraska, to William and Freida (Wurdeman) Groteluschen. She attended Hillsiding Grade School and Zion Lutheran Grade School. On November 20, 1939, Hilda and Elmer "Bud" Went eloped to Sioux City, Iowa. They farmed in Platte County until retiring and moved into Columbus in 1980. Hilda enjoyed playing "Pitch" and "Kings Corner". She loved to shop and was well known at Schwesers. Hilda was a "social butterfly" – visiting people in the hospital and calling people on the phone. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Hilda is survived by: Son – Ron (Rae Ann) Went of Columbus, NE Daughter – Sharon Behlen of Omaha, NE Son – Terry (Linda) Went of Columbus, NE Daughter – Gerolyn Went of Columbus, NE Daughter – Jan Wietfeld of Leigh, NE 17 Grandchildren 23 Great Grandchildren 2 Great-Great Grandchildren Sister-in-law – Helen Grotelueschen of Columbus, NE Hilda was preceded in death by: Parents – William and Freida Groteluschen Husband – Elmer "Bud" Went Daughter – Jamie Prochaska Granddaughter – Rhonda Went Brother – Melvin Grotelueschen Brother – Leo Groteluschen Sister – Ruth Olson Sister – Verona Ehlers
