Bio

Harvey was listed as age 6 on the 1850 Muhlenberg County, Kentucky census with Abner, age 48, and Rebecca, age 42, both born in Kentucky. Harvey had 7 brothers and sisters in 1850 and was also listed with his parents in 1860. Harvey Y. Woods married Minerva Read 15 Oct 1868 in Butler County, Kentucky. The 1870 census shows them in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky with an infant, age 6 months. Harvey Y. Woods was in Pleasant Township, Coffey County, Kansas by 1875, where he remained. Their children in Coffey County census reports were Sanoa, a son b. ca. 1870 KY; Erma, b. ca. 1876 KS; Rebecca, b. ca. 1879 KS; Ida, b. ca 1881 KS; & Ambrase, a son b. ca. 1883 KS. The 1885, 1895, 1905, and 1915 Coffey County, Kansas State census reports all record Harvey's service in Co. B, 11th Kentucky Infantry during the Civil War. There is also a record for Harvey in the Ancestry.com Civil War files listing his service in Co. B, 11th Kentucky Infantry, as well as the pension record. ************************************************************ An interesting story per the book "A History of Muhlenberg County (Kentucky) by Otto A. Rothert p282 James William Wood (I don't think they were related. James wrote to his mother dated Nov 11, 1864 "I am glad I will be with you soon. H. Y. Wood is not with us. He was left at Chattanooga guarding some government Beef cattle, but we are looking for him on every train." The 1920 Pleasant Township, Coffey County, Kansas census shows Harvey Wood, age 76, as the father-in-law of James Walters, wife Erma. Minerva, also listed in 1920, received a Civil War widow's pension in September, 1922. She was living with her daughter, Rebecca Grant, in Topeka, Kansas, in 1930. Minerva's mother, Sarah Reid, was living with Harvey & Minerva in 1910. Sarah Reid was listed as age 89, born in Kentucky. Harvey Wood is listed in the Bailey Cemetery on a 1962 roster of veterans buried in Coffey County, Kansas. His birth & death dates as listed, are entered above. There is the notation that Bailey Cemetery was located in the area of the access road to the dam for the John Redmond Dam & Reservoir. (This was a flood-prevention project of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.) This cemetery may have been relocated. Harvey is listed as Woods and also Wood in various records. ========= 30 May 2020 Harvey Wood (115915452) Suggested edit: About Woods vs Wood...it is correct as Wood.
