Bio

Sylvia Jakubowski, of Rockville, Nebraska died on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, with all of her children by her side at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Nebraska. Sylvia was born on April 13, 1933, in Farwell, Nebraska to Stanislaus Jacob "Stanley" and Nellie (Krance) Kosmicki. Sylvia married Joseph L. Jakubowski on Feb. 19, 1955, at St. Francis Church in Ashton. He preceded her in death. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Connie Jakubowski of San Diego, California, Bonnie and Sonny Sekutera of Loup City, Nebraska and Audrey and Jack Reimers of Boelus, Nebraska; son, Leonard "Jake", Jr. Jakubowski and special friend, Cheryl Smith, of Central City, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Stanczyk of Ashton, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Doris Kosmicki of Ashton, Nebraska and a host of family and friends. Sylvia was educated at District 68 St. Francis, Ashton, Nebraska and graduated from Ashton (NE.) High School in 1951. Sylvia and Joseph made their home on a farm northeast of Rockville, Nebraska before moving into Rockville, Nebraska in 1984. Sylvia was a member of St. Mary's Church and Altar Society, where she donated quilts and enjoyed helping with the church bazaar. She served on the Rockville (NE.) Town Board and was a member of the Jolly Time Card Club. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, embroidery and spending time with her grandchildren and the special moments spent with her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the time she worked at Gin's Tavern. She also helped with many Rockville (NE.) Fire Department fundraisers. She was all about volunteering and helping the town any way she could. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Stanley Kosmicki. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Rockville, Nebraska.
