Matthew K. "Matt" Broe, of Elm Creek, Nebraska, died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Mt. Carmel Keens Memorial Home, Kearney, Nebraska. Matthew K. Broe was born October 25, 1926 in Elm Creek, Nebraska to Thomas and Anna (Weaver) Broe. Matt attended elementary school at Elm Creek (NE.) Public School graduating in 1945. Later that year, Matt was united in marriage to Betty Beavers at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Elm Creek, Nebraska. Matt farmed in the community for 60 years. He served on the Coop Equity Board, Rural Fire Board for 55 years, Township Board, Elm Creek School Board for 16 years and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery Board. Matt was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, a 63 year member of the Eagles Club, Elks, Lions, and served as the leader for the first 4-H club in Buffalo County, "Hill Billy Baby Beef." He also drove the Elm Creek Public School bus for 15 years. He hobbies were his wife, church and family. He also enjoyed arriving at Mom's Kitchen at 5:00 A.M. to open it up with his fellow coffee mates. Matt was very dedicated to his church, Elm Creek Public School and community. He loved the town of Elm Creek. Survivors are wife of 68 years, Betty Broe of Kearney, Nebraska; daughter, Pamela Tool and husband, Richard of Elm Creek, Nebraska; son, Dennis "Joe" Broe and wife Connie of Covington, Georgia; daughter, Cindy Schroeder and husband, Mark of Elm Creek, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Marian Broe of Elm Creek, Nebraska; grandchildren, Trace, Tobian and wife, Heather and Tanner Tool of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Jeremy and wife Carmen Broe of Atlanta, Georgia, Justin Broe and fiancé Janelle Havelka of Bellevue, Washington, Megan Broe of Omaha, Nebraska, Bridget and husband Kris Jones of Kearney, Nebraska, Deziree' Schroeder and fiancé, Dave Bredemeier of Adams, Nebraska, Xan Bovill and husband, Patrick of McHenry, Illinois, Matthew Broe and wife, Julie of Grand Junction, Colorado; great grandchildren, Brendan, Parker and Gracie Broe, Kellen Broe, Trista Tool, Aspen, Emerson and London Tool, Sebastian and Stephen Broe, Sailor Jones and Bree Bredemeier; sister-in-law, Opal Brodine; brother-in-law, Raymond Hahn of Elm Creek, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Dean Beavers of Kearney, Nebraska and a host of family and friends. Matt was preceded in death by: sister, Marie Wilson; son, Ronald M. Broe and granddaughter, Molly Broe. Burial was in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Elm Creek, Nebraska.
