Bio

The Whitewright Sun, Whitewright, Texas, Thursday, 16 May 1940, Page Three Child Killed in Highway Accident ECTOR.- Joan Chitwood, 4-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Chitwood, who reside two miles west of Ector, was killed instantly Sunday evening at 7:15 o'clock when struck by an automobile on Highway 82 near her home. After visiting neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Crawford, the little girl was crossing the highway to her home when the tragedy occurred. She was dead when Mrs. Crawford ran from her house and picked her up. A Gainesville woman driving the automobile was exonerated in an immediate investigation conducted by Fannin County officers. The child was reported to have run in front of the machine. Funeral services for the tot were held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Ector Baptist Church with Rev. M. E. Miller officiating. Burial was in Carson Cemetery. Surviving are the parents; two brothers, Thomas and Robert, and a sister, Sarah.
