Henry Gafford ‘Hank’ Irby Funeral services for Henry Gafford “Hank” Irby, 78, of Idabel, Okla., will be held at at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Norwood Funeral Chapel on Main Street in Idabel with the Rev. Laroi Woods officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday in Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur Springs. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at the Idabel funeral home. Mr. Irby died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, after a battle with lung cancer. He was born on March 20, 1927, the son of Emmett and Elsie Irby. Mr. Irby was a veteran who served in the Navy during WWII. He was member and past commander of the American Legion Post 8, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was Post District 3 Commander of Oklahoma American Legion. He was also on the Board of Trustees of the McCurtain County Veteran Memorial Museum. He was retired of PSO and had lived in Idabel for the past 40 years. He also coached Idabel baseball in the 1970s. Survivors include his wife, Mary Irby of Idabel; two sons, Lenox “Sandy” Irby of Kansas City, Mo., and Mark Irby of Broken Bow, Okla.; one daughter, Martha Lynn Irby of Sulphur Springs; four stepdaughters, Reba Buchovecky of Fayetteville, Ark., Sherri Booth of Miami, Okla., Regina Johnson of Idabel, Okla., and Yevonne Kielty of Tulsa, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Irby was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Elsie Irby; 5 sisters; 3 brothers; and a wife, Grace Irby.
