Note: SSDI incorrectly lists his death date as 15 Jul 1969. ∼ MANY FARMERS ORDERING WEEKLY DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE. Although born in Collin county, a married man who has lived on a farm with his little family for several years, James Dowell Peters of the Viney Grove community has subscribed for his first newspaper. Henceforth The Weekly Democrat-Gazette will be a regular visitor to his home. He was born in Collin county, seven miles southeast of McKinney and was named after a pioneer McKinney business man, James P. Dowell. He is a son of the late "Uncle" Jim Peters, Collin county pioneer. His wife was Miss Mary Eilzabeth {sic} Scalf, daughter of J. B. Scalf who now lives at Bokchito, Oklahoma. Peters Rites Held Funeral rites were held Saturday afternoon, July 5 in Turrentine-Jackson Chapel in McKinney for James Dowell Peters, 76, native of Collin County who died July 3 in Collin Memorial Hospital. Rev. W. R. Dickworth officiated with burial in Wilson Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Peters was born May 9, 1893 and was of Pentecostal faith. Surviving are five sons, Wesley of Renner; H. H. of McKinney; Jesse of Lewisville; J. D. Jr., of Plano; William H. of California; four daughters, Mrs. L. A. Allen of Blue Ridge; Mrs. J. B. Boydston of Plano; Mrs. Henry Meek of Dallas; Mrs. John Daniels of McKinney; sister, Mrs. Rose Mc Garrah of Princeton; 27 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
