Isaac Graves built his home, a Colonial style mansion, on a hill just outside of McKinney in 1857 when he first arrived from Virginia. It was constructed by slaves, and was built of oak and heart of pine hauled from Jefferson by ox wagon. The inside walls were covered with hog hair plaster, and there were two, two-story chimneys. He kept a phaeton-type carriage, which had originally been built for the governor of Missouri, in his carriage shed for his family to use.Mr. Graves was a Confederate soldier, and his home was headquarters for most of the Confederate forces organized in and around McKinney. The Graves home was the center of social activities before and for many hears following the Civil War.Historical marker on home - SE corner US 380 and US 75.
