James Loyd Baxter 1907 - 1974 Funeral services for James Loyd Baxter, 66, of 3192 W. Center St., Provo, Utah, who died of heart failure Tuesday, [March 28, 1974], at his home, will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Sunset Second Ward Chapel [of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints]. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary in Provo Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the chapel Friday prior to services. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Hills. Mr. Baxter was born November 4, 1907, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James Angus and Bell [Belle] Maude Ellis Baxter. He married Berniece Knudsen on March 22, 1934, in Salt Lake City, and the marriage was solemnized later in the Salt Lake Temple. She died September 17, 1973. Mr. Baxter moved with his family at the age of four to Manard, Idaho, and then in 1920, returned to Utah. He attended Pleasant Grove Schools, where he was active in sports and he graduated from high school there in 1927. He worked on farms in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and California. He and his wife made their home in Provo where they operated the Lake Front Jersey Farm in west Provo. He was an elder in Sunset Second Ward. Survivors include one son and three daughters, Leonard K. Baxter, Orem; Mrs. Charles (Reva) Pope, both of Provo, and Mrs. Larry (Fern) Hawkins, Honolulu, Hawaii; 11 grandchildren; one brother and three sisters, Walter Clyde Baxter, Layton; Mrs. Oren (Viola) Walker, Provo; Mrs. William (Leah) Wright and Mrs. Dale (Eva) Featherstone, both of American Fork. — The Daily Herald | Provo, Utah | Wednesday, 29 May 1974 | p. 4 | transcribed/edited by Annie Duckett Hundley | 13 August 2013
