Bio

Louis Terrell “Terry” Russell, 96, of Nacogdoches, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 in Nacogdoches. Mr. Russell was born on December 23, 1920, in Russell, Texas, the son of Mr. John T. Russell and Minnie Neally Russell. Graveside services will be held June 17, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Terry attended and graduated from Oakwood High School in Oakwood, Texas, class of 1939. He then attended Lamar University. Soon after he joined the U.S. Coast Guard on August 28, 1942. Terry proudly served his country until November 13, 1945. He is a veteran of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, one of the largest naval battles of WWII. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by Texaco for 35 years from December of 1945 to January 1, 1980. After retiring from Texaco, he made his home in Nacogdoches where he lived until his passing. Terry married Miss Peggy Ruth Still on December 21, 1946, and had one son, John T. Russell. He is survived by his nephews: Rick and Linda Still, Frank and Tricia Still, and Joe and Jill Still, Jim and Debbie Still; nieces: Janet Russell, Patricia Redding, Norma Draper, Amy and Charles Allen, Eileen and Mike Hogan, along with other family and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. John T. Russell and Minnie Neally Russell, his beloved wife, Peggy Still, his son, John Terrell Russell, his sister Sue Redding, brothers: Harland Russell, Lee Russell, and Curtis Russell, and his niece, Jean McFatter.
