It is with a sad heart that we are called upon to chronicle the death of J.M. Spradley, which occurred on the night of Tuesday May 1st, at the home of his son R.J. Spradley, after an illness of several months. He was 79 years old and leaves only one son, who was at his bedside when he died. Grandpa Spradley, as everyone called him, died as he had lived, whole souled and happy, always meeting everyone with a smile and a happy word. He was ready and willing to go and his only regret was that he would have to be separated from his grand children. He was born in Tennessee in 1827, and moved to Holly Springs just before the war, going from there into the Confederate service, making a fine record as a soldier. he came to Okolona in 1891 and for the past few years has made his home with his son. He was a devoted husband and father. If any of the characteristics stood out side the circle of his home life, they were his faithfulness and unfailing cheerfulness. Perhaps no truer keynote to his character could be sounded than to say that he loved little children. the remains were taken to Holly Springs and interred by the side of his wife.
