Mitchell Daily Republic (SD); Fri., 15 Apr 1949 CONDUCT RITES AT LAKE ANDES FOR J.J. NOVOTNY Lake Andes, S.D.-Funeral rites for Joseph J. Novotny, 76, were held at St. Mark's Catholic church here April 12 with Fr. L. Janus officiating. Burial was made in the cemetery at Dante. Mr. Novotny died April 8. Survivors include his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Pavlis, Lake Andes; two sons, Charles of Lake Andes and William of Mobridge; five brothers, one sister and two grandsons. Mr. Novotny was born in Bon Homme county February 16, 1873, to Joseph and Rose Novotny. On February 3, 1897 he married Mary Kokes and they made their home in Vodnany, S.D. To this union five children were born, three of them preceding Mr. Novotny in death. In 1915 his wife died and in 1917 he married Justina Dugovic of Chicago. One son, William, was born to this marriage. In 1909 he moved to a farm northwest of Lake Andes. In 1919 he moved to Lake Andes where he lived until his death.
