Bio

Arlene Elizabeth Zimmerman passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Bethany on University Drive, while under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Arlene was born to Leo and Lydia Eisel on November 4, 1929 in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Little Falls and Duluth, MN. She went to beauty school in Duluth, and also worked for the telephone company there. She met her husband, Cliff, in Duluth, and married in December of 1946. Cliff and Arlene had two children, Deanna "Dee" (Larry) Johnson of Moorhead, MN, and Earl (Nancy) Zimmerman of Corcoran, MN. They moved to St. Louis Park, MN in 1962. Mom worked for the J. C. Penney Co., until she retired in 1981. At that time, she and her husband worked part time at True Value Hardware for many years. She and her husband moved to Bethany Retirement in Fargo in 2008. Anyone who knew Arlene would agree that she invented the phrase "born to shop". She loved keeping up on the latest fashions and always looking nice. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff, who died 1 November of 2010. (Ed. Note: Tombstone date is the 8th). She is survived by her daughter Deanna and son Earl, along with three grandsons, Jeff (Karla) Johnson, Fargo, ND, Dan (Kristen) Zimmerman of Eden Prairie, MN, and Eric Zimmerman of St. Paul, MN, and one great-grandson, Ryan Zimmerman of Eden Prairie, MN. The family would like to thank Bethany Retirement Living and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their kind and compassionate care of Mom over the years.
