From the Wamego Smoke Signal Gilbert Albert Capoun, 81, of Alma, Kansas, died Thursday, December 20, 2012, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was a long-time resident of the community. Gilbert was born on June 4, 1931, in Loma, Nebraska, the son of Albert and Caroline Nauratil Capoun. He attended local schools and graduated from High School in Paxico. Gilbert served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany. Gilbert was a life-long rancher and proud owner of the CX Ranch east of Alma. He was a member of the American Legion, the Mill Creek Cowboys Association and the American Cattleman's Association. He was a member of the Newbury Township Board, as well as participating in many other community activities. He also was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Gilbert was known for his gift and love of music. He loved to play the guitar, harmonica and sing. He helped organize a community band, and for many years they played at barn dances on the weekends. Gilbert married Geneva Haller on February 13, 1960. She preceded him in death. He then married Nancy Post on October 27, 2001, in Alma. She survives at their home. He is also survived by his sons, his sister, his step-children, his grandchildren, His step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his great-great-grandchild, . He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard, Alfred and Jimmy.
