Jelinek, 72, of Grand Island died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jolene was born Nov. 13, 1937, in Grand Island to Duke and Thelma (Ross) Durand. She married Donald Jelinek on July 31, 1953, in Grand Island. He preceded her in death. Survivors of the immediate family include her fiance, Leonard Powers of Cairo; two daughters and a son-in-law, Vicki Hewitt of Alda; Judy and Bob Poe of Grand Island; a son, Don Jelinek of Grand Island; one sister and four brothers. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Brian and wife, Sara Jelinek, of Grand Island, Barry Jelinek of Lincoln, Melissa Poe of Grand Island, Nichole and husband, Mark Edwards, of Darr, Valerie Poe of Grand Island, and Kipp Hewitt of Alda; and two great-grandchildren, Katie Poe and Emma Edwards. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She attended school in Grand Island. Jolene and Donald started a family and she lived all her life in Grand Island. She worked at the House Of Fabrics and at JoAnn's Fabrics where she found her calling. Jolene attended craft fairs, selling their crafts. She loved to travel and was known to her family as the Midnight Traveler. She and her husband collected barbed wire, which, along with several other collections, she donated to the Hastings Museum and several other museums in the area when Donald died. Jolene enjoyed spending time with her family and was active in AA. She was very faithful at First Baptist Church, enjoying Wednesdays having dinner and meeting friends, and, was very upbeat, social and a delight to know.
