Joe Prokop served in the U.S. Marine Corps reserve as a sergeant and ordnance chief of VMF-111 stationed at the Dallas Naval Air Station. While in the reserves, Joe worked for the Little Stage Lighting Company in Dallas. Joe joined the U.S. Army and trained as a fixed wing pilot. He flew O-1 Bird Dog aircraft on convoy escort missions during the Vietnam War. After the war, Joe continued to fly as an army pilot in Europe and elsewhere. After leaving the army, Joe worked for the Lone Star Flight Museum, first in Houston and later in Galveston, Texas, until his death from cancer in 2004. courtesy of Tom Killebrew ************************ PROKOP, JOE FRANK, 66 of Pearland passed away Friday, December 24, 2004. Joe was the director of maintenance at the Lone Star Flight Museum, was an Army and a Marine veteran of Vietnam, holds Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, National Defense Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal Joe successfully completed over 1,100 hours of combat air missions. He is predeceased by his brothers: Alvin Prokop II and Henry Prokop. Joe is survived by his wife: Linda L. Prokop, a daughter: Mary Frances Blumrich and son-in-law Kenneth Blumerich, brother: Marvin Prokop and sister: Georgie Prokop and a granddaughter: Haley Leah Blumrich. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday December 29, 2004 at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday December 30, 2004 at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery with burial to follow.
