Lola Marie Chester June 27, 1927 — May 5, 2011 Longtime Sonora resident Lola Marie Chester died Thursday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 83. Born in Slaton, Texas, she married Verne Vassar in Stockton in the early 1950s and the couple moved to Sonora in 1956. They had three sons together before his death in 1961. She went on to marry Scott Chester, whom she was married to for 44 years. They were member of the First Baptist Church for many years. She lived in Sonora for 55 years and worked at Rube's Restaurant in Sonora for 25 years. Mrs. Chester is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Caroline Vassar, of Miami, Fla.; grandchildren, Jason Vassar and Janet Jeske, both of Sonora, Brad S. Vassar, of Los Angeles, Laura Vassar, of New York, N.Y., and Robert A Cavagnaro, of Stent; siblings, John Jones and Wanda Glover, both of Stockton; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Verne Vassar; second husband, Scott Chester; and children, Michael and Kurt Vassar. A service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, 14425 Mono Way, Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. UNION DEMOCRAT May 10 2011
