James Earl or Elisha Ireland was born May 12, 1855 in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, the son of James Buryl and Rhoda Aurelia (Hartson) Ireland. On May 22, 1893, James married Jemmina Dessima Budd, the daughter of Thomas and Theresa E. (Gifford) Budd. On July 15, 1893, Dessima died at White Sulphur Springs, Montana and her body was taken to Townsend, Montana for burial. On October 2, 1894, James married Minnie Regina Budd in Helena, Montana. They were married by A. D. Raleigh, Minister. Minnie was the sister of Dessima Budd, James' first wife. The Helena City Directories record the following: 1894, James Ireland, laborer, residence 208 S. Warren. 1895, James Ireland, fireman, St. Peter's Hospital, boards 35 11th Avenue. 1896, James Ireland, miner, residence 422 S. Davis. On October 14, 1897, James died in Helena. According to the Lewis and Clark County death indexes, James was a teamster, lived at 817 North Ewing, and he died of syncope. The attending physician was Dr. Brooke. He was buried in Townsend. "John E. Ireland, a former resident of Townsend, died Thursday morning at St. Peter's hospital, Helena. The body was brought here last night and will be buried today in the Deep Creek Cemetery."
